I think what Ira was trying to say when it comes to the political inequality in America is the face that government ran programs such as social security and welfare systems in the long run they do not help black people they end up pushing the backwards and making it harder and more unfair. Ira believe that welfare created another working class that both white and blacks participated in. ira also believed that social security and minimumwages excluded agricultural and domestic workers, three courters of African Americans lived in the south where their employment was concentrated in agriculture and domestic service. Often people would discriminate north and south and the common rule seemed to be cut black people short. Mortgage lenders would not give some African Americans loans because a white person may have wanted the same one. The effect was to deny African-Americans their fair shares of social and economic goods. When it comes affirmative action Ira felt that there were really two basic programs that were for whites; THE New Deal and Gi program. But the combination of a lack of interest in racial equality by Roosevelt with the power of Southern politicians made these programs deeply racist at their core. Southern politicians insisted that the New Deal programs be controlled at the local levels this way the white southerns could keep control over the money creating a huge disadvantage for blacks. Not only did this reinforce inequality but it made the New Deal seem unfair to people, people especially people in the south. The Gi bill was almost the same as the New deal. In order for Roosevelt to get these bills passed he had to insure to the southerns that the bills would be controlled by the local government. Most money for colleges went to already advantaged white institutions, while struggling black colleges continue to suffer. Home...
