TEACHING SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE USING EXAMPLES (Beginner) Step 1 Teacher gets students’ attention by sharing her everyday routines to students. After describing her routines in some sentences, she writes few examples on the whiteboard. E.g: I drive to school every day. I brush my teeth before I go to sleep. Step 2 The teacher passes around an envelope which contains pictures of objects that they can be found in their house. Each student has to pick a picture randomly. When all of them already get a picture, they are required to build ONE sentence about what they can do every day with the object. Students jot them down on a piece of paper. Answers may vary and students are encouraged to be creative. Step 3 When students are already done building their sentences, each of them has to stand up and read aloud what they have jotted down earlier. When the class agrees that the sentence is creative, teacher writes them on the whiteboard. At this point too, the teacher corrects errors made by students. Students who come up with a correct answer will get a reward from the teacher. Step 5 The teacher then asks the students to interview a friend next to them about his/her daily routines. The teacher facilitates students’ sentence-writing stage and helps them where necessary. Finally, students are required to write a short paragraph based on their interview and hand it in to the teacher. Discussion This particular lesson plan starts with teacher’s own experience of her...
