Ted Bundy

Ted Bundy was an American serial killer who confessed to raping and killing more than 30 women between 1974 and 1978.

Theodore Robert Cowell was born on November 24, 1946 in Vermont to Louise Cowell. His biological father was unknown to Ted during his whole life. After his birth, Ted and his mother moved to the home of his grandparents in Pennsylvania. In order to protect Ted’s mother of harsh criticism and prejudice of being an unwed mother, Ted was led to believe that his grand-parents were his parents and his mother his older sister.
As he grew up the confusing relationship with his mother heavily disturbed Ted. At the age of three, Ted’s mother one day awoke to the kitchen knifes being placed all around her head, blades pointing toward her.

When he was four, Ted and his mother moved to Tacoma, Washington to live with relatives. There, Louise fell in love with Johnnie Culpepper Bundy whom she married in 1951. As a result of the marriage, Ted assumed the name of his stepfather, which he would keep for the rest of his life. However, Ted never had a good relationship with his stepfather. He looked down on him for not having a high enough station in life. Instead, he looked up to his great-uncle Jack who was a cultured music professor at the university of Puget Sound in Washington. Ted wanted to be just like him.

As a boy Ted was shy and uncomfortable in social situations. He was often teased in school. In high school, Ted always remained a high point average. His teachers described him as intelligent and kind. However he always had an awkward relationship with his fellow classmates, especially the girls. Secretly however Ted was breaking the law. By the age of 15, he had become and expert shoplifter and a peeping tom. Moreover, there have always been suspicions that Ted Bundy committed his first murder at the time. A girl aged 8 called Anne Marie Berth who took Piano lessons with his great Uncle Jack mysteriously disappeared one day....
