Teen depression are words in which encapsulates an important issue that needs to be addressed and not overlooked. Depression may be something we see and do nothing about, it can also be unseen and not known until it’s too late. The topic of depression is touchy. One who falls into depression may have causes but not everyone has symptoms and most don’t seek treatment.
“Depression is regularly used in daily conversation to indicate a feeling of unhappiness or dejection.” When this is brought up in conversation for one to express their unhappiness because for example, ones girlfriend broke up with them, this isn’t actual full out depression. This is just a momentary low point that they will soon over come. “Depression is a serious condition where feelings of sadness, hopelessness and despair persist over long periods of time and interfere with an individual’s ability to function - at home, work, school, college and socially.”
Teen depression are triggered from, the changing values of society, media, academic pressure, peer pressure, home background, and personal experiences. Academic pressure for some students is immense, knowing that a grade can decide whether you can be a doctor or a janitor can really get to a teen. The pressure of knowing that your peers are wanting you to try something, example drugs, and knowing if you don’t do it you won’t fit in and will be teased because of it. When listening to the media it expresses false ideals. Glamorizing sex, drugs, alcohol, etc making it seem like the life that all people should desire. If your parents are unsupportive, eat whatever they want, physically or emotionally abusive, this could make one more prone to becoming depressed. Also personal experiences may not be a big deal to an adult but to a certain teenager this may be what pushes them over board, for example if a girl was raped, this will stay with her for the rest of her life, and because she’s in her teens this has made it difficult for her to trust...
