"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Does America still provide access to the American dream, to the tired, the huddled masses? In my opinion, no America isn’t really helping the Americans. They may provide us with free scholarships, and gives us free education between k-12, but there is much negativity to the “American dreams”. Three main ways America is negative towards its citizens is by the education of our country, our government and our freedom.
The “ideal” American dream is a happy and successful life which all may aspire, but my ideal American dream is the American social and political system that makes success for themselves from other individuals. I believe in this theory because 11 years ago, I had dreams, big dreams of going to college and ready to become a mature, successful independent woman.6 years later, reality struck in and changed my whole life forever. The beginning of middle school, an eleven year old, only knowing how to multiply fractions and subtracting decimals, only to come to find that there is so much more in the world that we need to be prepared for. PSAT’s, SAT’S, scholarships, college credits, extra curriculums that were NEEDED to be taken, and so much more. All piled on top of me like one month of dirty laundry, but I kept my head held high and tried to continue with this challenge. Years past and more things kept piling, and more...And more…and more felt like giving up and just quitting. I thought to myself, what will this do in REAL life, a high school student and we still haven’t learned things that will have to face in adult hood, like paying bills, figuring out what taxes are and what they do to are hard earned money. Even if I do make it to college, after I graduate successfully form 4 years of school, what then?? I’m still working, I’ll never get a break, and I’ll still be working for...
