Beowulf the Monster Defeater
All things in the world are two. In our minds we are two, good and evil. In the medieval times and the unknown poet who wrote Beowulf. This tale is about a man whom wanted to save his town from the monster named Grendel. Who wanted to kill anyone who made merry, because Grendel hated people that made merry. Also Beowulf decided if nobody else was going to do anything about everyone who made merry in the town then Beowulf was going to do something about it. So Beowulf started battling monsters and dragons to defeat Grendel. Along with doing that he became a man who sought glory and fame for himself from battling all these monsters and dragons. Beowulf reflects the cultural values of society by providing the reader with examples of bravery, honor, and loyalty.
Beowulf had traveled a far distance in order to have a chance to fight a very terrifying monster named Grendel. And Beowulf got his chance to fight the monster when Grendel barged into the hall that was hold all the sleeping warriors and stuffed with rows of young soldiers all resting together. Beowulf’s chance was after Grendel snatched at the first Geat that he saw and Grendel ripped the Geat apart. Then Beowulf’s chance was when the narrator said, “Claws bent back as Beowulf leaned up on one arm. That shepherd of evil, guardian of crime knew at once that nowhere on earth had he met a man whose hands were harder; His mind was flooded with fear---- but nothing could take his talons and himself from that tight hard grip. Grendel’s one thought was to run from Beowulf, flee back to his marsh and hide there: this was a different Herot than the hall he had emptied.” (Beowulf 271-279). Grendel the very terrifying monster has killed 60 warriors or more. Grendel will eat anything and or anyone that tries to stand in his way.
