Tenskwatawa
Tenskwatawa (known as Lalewithaka in younger age) was born in 1775 in Old Piqua, Ohio. During his life he became an alcoholic and made many mistakes. During his lifetime the white men had brought over a terrible disease that swept his tribe. Out of anger he was going to attack the white men but then passed out. Everyone thought he passed out because he drank too much but then realized he wasn’t breathing. They started to prepare for his funeral when he woke up. He told them of the vision he had. The Master of Life showed him the past present and future. He showed him the paradise they would soon see. When Tenskwatawa woke up he decided to stop his evil ways and go back to the ways of the true Shawnee tribe. People started to call him the prophet. They believed all the things he would tell them. He decided to lead the Indians into an attack on the white men. When they pulled a surprise attack they were caught and retreated. The Native Americans were told that if they wanted to remain friends with the white men they would turn on Tenskwatawa. When they did he was no longer known as the prophet. Later in his life he died in Kansas City, Kansas in November 1836.
