Disney’s Value Alignment
An organization values are the principles and characteristics that define the organization internally and externally. “Values are standard which we strive to achieve” (Pearce II & Robinson, Jr., 2009, p. 45). “Values are practical habits that enable us as individuals to live, be successful, and achieve happiness” (Pearce II & Robinson, Jr., 2009, p. 45). It is an organization duty to protect these values to ensure they achieve: sustainability, growth, and profitability. Consequently, an organization must ensure protection and representation of their values both internally and externally.
The connection Disney share with many people around the world, is one the organization must not take for granted. The organization recognizes the continued success of the company depends on the values of the company and the values of the people within the company. Behaviors must first be model by the organization and instilled in the individuals within the organization. However, the organization must ensure the personal values of the individual representing the organizations align with the organization’s values. Some employees may find it difficult to distinguish between the appropriateness of personal and workplace values.
Fortunately, Disney understands the importance of professional development within the workplace through guidance. A proactive approach Disney has taken to protect and align the organization values by creating a Standards of Business Conduct. This resource is available for both internal and external guidance. These standards are values to aid in the professional development of integrity, trust, teamwork, honesty, respect, and the understanding rules. Workplace values are not innate in many individuals; they educate through model behavior overtime.
