Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a co pastor at his father’s church and a civil rights activist on the behalf of the minorities, mainly African Americans, in the mid 1900s. Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929 to Alberta William King and Marin Luther King Sr. in Atlanta Georgia. Martin grew up in the church and lived in a religious home due to his parents’ upbringing. MLK went through the same things that most African Americans went through, segregation due to racism. At the age of six Martin Luther King Jr. first experienced his first bout of racism. There was a white playmate that he would always spend his time with playing childhood games. At first things were fine until Martin and the boy entered school, separate schools of course (The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr., 2001).
Then as time went by the other boy began to distance himself from Martin, until the white boy’s father ordered his son to stop seeing Martin all together. This incident seemed so strange to Martin that he had brought it up to his parents at dinner one night. Even though his Martin’s parents tried to tell him to love everyone even those who showed no sign of respect towards him, Martin grew up determined to hate everyone white person (The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr., 2001).
At the age of 15 Martin Luther King Jr. attended Morehouse College on September 20, 1944. There were many hardships for Martin at Morehouse. Even though he was at the top of his class I high school, Martin still read at an eighth grade level (The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr., 2001). The next step in Martin’s academic career led him to Boston University, where he met and fell in love with singer, Coretta Scott, in Boston, Massachusetts.
