Ronald Wilson Reagan was the 40th president of the United States of America. following the unique path of careers of being a radio sports announcer, a Hollywood movie actor, and a television host. He had turned to politics in the year of 1966 and was he elected governor of California, and had served eight years. Reagan had ran for presidency, unsuccessfully during the years of 1968 and 1976, but 1980 was his time to shine. During this time the U.S’ economy and foreign policy were having many difficulties. Reagan won the Republican presidential election, defeating President Jimmy Carter in a general election.
When Reagan took office, the public confidence was at an all time lowest since the Great Depression. Reagan most definitely succeeded in making the American people believe in themselves again, he later called this the best achievement during his presidency. Reagan had vowed to rebuild the American military and he wanted to confront the Soviet Union and it’s allies with a new purpose. He promise to negotiate with the Soviets from a position of strength. The 1980’s was about the history of our modern world that produced political, technological, cultural, and social revolutions that began in the United States and went on to change the world. Sixty-nine days later he was shot by attempt assassination but he was soon healed up and put back to duty. During the time of his injuries he was considered by most graceful but witty, which caused his popularity level to rise sky high. Dealing skillfully with congress, Reagan had obtained legislation to stimulate economic growth. Their victory had turned away Democratic challengers such as Walter F. Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro.
