The Art of Watching Film

My Recent Movie Experience

This paper is going to be difficult for me to compose as I do not get to watch a lot of movies these days because of my busy life. If I do get to see one, I am lucky, and it is most likely old by now (lol)! Thinking back to recent weeks, I do remember seeing one movie that was on cable, but I did not catch the entire thing. I think that I caught about ¾ of it though, which should be enough to complete this assignment I hope. I actually got to sit down with my kids a few weeks ago and watch some television, and we watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on one of the movie channels. Now it was not the original one that was around when I was younger, but it was the more recent one starring Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka.
As far as what the movie means to me, it just seems to be about a weird chocolatier who doesn’t like spoiled little kids that are not very nice to anyone. I must say though, that Johnny Depp makes Wonka seem really creepy and he plays the part excellently. I don’t remember Wonka being so creepy in the original one, but again, look how long ago that was made. I didn’t really watch it in a way that I could analyze it or relate to it better, as I watched it before this class began, therefore it was purely for entertainment and to spend time with my kids. My kids thought it was funny when the weird things started happening to the children who did not want to listen to Wonka when he warned them about the candy. If I would have begun this course before watching that movie, I may have looked more into what it may have meant to me. Unfortunately this is the most recent movie I have seen, because I do not have the time to go to the movies very much since I work two jobs.
I think that this movie is really about watching how you treat people, how you should listen to their warnings (if any), and not acting like you know more...
