The Beatles were a rock band from Liverpool, England, formed in 1960 by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. Although they were essentially a rock band, they experimented with many different genres. Their clothes and style made them trend-setters, at the same time; their growing social awareness influenced the social and cultural revolutions of the 60s.
The Beatles are, undoubtedly, one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of rock n roll. They sold over 1 billion albums internationally. In the UK, The Beatles released more than 40 different singles, albums, and EPs that reached number one on the charts. This commercial success was repeated in many other countries: in America, The Beatles are the biggest selling band in history. In 2001, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked The Beatles as number one on its top 100 greatest artists of all time. On top of all this they’ve received more than 87,777 awards in 10 years, a feat yet to be replicated.
You might think that all this success must mean their music was mindless and just adaptive to the era. But that’s the beauty of The Beatles, their music was (it still is) so influential, so innovative (for the time), and so creative, it just makes you wonder if there will be something that extraordinary in your lifetime.
Their music touched the hearts of a generation of people; songs like “Hey Jude” and “Let It Be” are some of the greatest songs known today. The lyrics of their songs are so simple yet have so much meaning. I think one of their greatest albums to date is “Abbey Road”, it is also one of the most influential albums in existence and the cover of the album is iconic of the era, it also has some of their best songs.
My personal favorite is “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”, only because of how the music in the background is different from their usual “in your face” type beats, rather, the song takes a more mellow route...
