The Big Falls Cut

The Big Falls Cut

This summer my family and I spent a week at my Uncle's hunting camp, located
near Somerset County. We had heard some stories about a big swimming hole that
was down the road from camp. We were told that there are cliffs that you can dive off of
into the water, which was about 35 to 40 feet deep. We went up one day and saw that
the cliffs we were told about were huge! They looked to be at least 55 feet above the
water. Since the day we first had seen them we always wondered: how did they
become this way?
Finally, we had found out how they had become the way they are now. We came
to find that before the water hole was there, there had been a big water fall. Behind and
under the water fall was all water, and it was really deep. The locals told us that
the animals that where living in the woods had built the Falls Cut Cliffs. They told us
that the animals met at the water fall one day and talked about making cliffs so people
could jump off of them into the water.
All the little animals talked about how they were going to make this happen.
They said that theres water under the water fall that was about 150 feet deep. The
flying fish had gone under the water fall and said it was really deep. So they all talked
about how they were going to make it. They had all the little digging animals stand on
the outsides of the water fall and begin digging. They would dig the whole way down
until they almost touched the water.
Then they would gather all the big animals, such as the bears, and they would
stand on the top of the waterfall and jump until the rock started to crack. When it had
finally cracked, all the bears ran to the side and watched the big rock fall down to the
bottom of the big hole. Thats how, it has been said, they had built the big cliffs.
They would then go to Falls Cut everyday and swim and jump off the cliffs.
Good teamwork always helps when you really need it. Falls Cut is still there
today and looks the...
