The book that I chose was Ender’s Game written by Orson Scott Card. This book takes place in the distant future of Earth. The year is two-thousand thirty five, and the humans are being attacked by the evil “buggers” which are an alien race. Earth has barely managed to live through two attacks by the buggers. Now the International Fleet (I.F.) is requesting children very young, putting them into a battle school training them for war. There are many characters in this book. The main characters are Andrew “Ender” Wiggins his brother Peter and sister Valentine. The children because of their intelligence were each considered to help the military win the war against the alien buggers. Peter, who was ten, was rejected because he was too violent. Valentine, who was eight, was rejected because she was the opposite of Peter. She was too kind and didn’t have any violence. Ender, however, who was six, was what was believed to be the perfect mixture of both, his brother and sister. Ender was compassionate, but when necessary he would become destructive. Ender is a person who makes things happens.
Colonel Hyman Graff, from the military came to the Wiggins home to invite Ender to enter the battle school. He explained that through the result of genetic experiments, they felt that Ender was the right child to help the military against the buggers’ attacks. Colonel Graff stated to Ender, that once he joined the school, he couldn’t see his family again until at least another six years. Ender hated fighting and really didn’t want to go, but he agreed anyway, because he was born for that reason only, and he wanted to have something to do with his life.
