‘The boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ is a novel cleverly written from the perspective of nine-year-old boy, Bruno. This allows readers to understand implications beyond the scope of Bruno’s perceptions. Character development is used to illustrate that we are all subject to misconception. John Boyne develops both Bruno and Gretel’s character through their experiences, relationships and the way in which they face and deal with matters beyond their understanding, as if they are just new opportunities.
