Should same sex couples be able to raise children? Studies show that at least 1 out of 9 million children have at least one parent who is either gay or lesbian. “There are 594,000 same sex partners that live in the same households and 27% of those households have children.” (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, 2002-2014) Only 37 states recognize and have legalized same sex marriage and 13 states that still ban the idea. Which also means that the idea of even same sex couples is often frowned upon in those states that ban the idea. Interesting enough that through the states do not recognize same sex couples it does not stop those couples from living or wanting to live in those states. In the case of Emily and Lois many different ethical issues where presented. In this essay I plan to address that by speaking with colleagues for additional support is a great way to find resources for legal issues, suggested that offering Emily and Lois their own therapeutic sessions to address their own personal problems is a great way to introduced the neighboring support groups that are available to them, and I recommended that by extending the offer to Emily parents for group therapy is a great way to get an understanding of how both parties feel about the situation.
