Britain has witnessed the settelment of four different civilizations that had a major influence on how Britain is structured nowadays. The Celts, who came to Britain in around 600BC, are those who had a dominant civilization in all Europe and in Britain in particular. It’s not sure to say whether they settled or invaded Britain because they lived during the dark ages; on what today we have a very slight knowledge. And still discovering their remnants is the only effective way to know much about them, and why they had that great importance on the history of Britain.
Nothing can be clear evidence on the significant influence of the Celts than the widespreadly spoken Celtic language that has many sub-languages like: Irish Gaelic, Scotish Gaelic, Welsh. These last mentioned are derived from the proto-Celtic which is a branch of the Indo-European languages. The Celts are the ancestors of many people in Britain and in other places in Europe: Highland, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Spain, France, Turkey, to mention but few. These setllers were worriors and they are believed to be the first who used Iron to make swords, weapons and some agricultural tools like the plough.
Another convincing proof about the existence of the Celts lay on the archaeological detections, which are found in different areas. The gravestones and the burial rites were first used by the Celts. So, many archaeological discoveries were found in forms of manuscripts written in a Celtic script « Oghman » in Scotland, Ireland and North America. La Téne style, which are some remains of the Iron age, belong to the Celtic culture and they were found in Swetzerland of the modern-day. The Celts were creative artists in textile-making as well as in artwork. Besides the wedding traditions in Britain nowadays that belong to Celts, the Celts used to wear jewelry and special rings having nature, heart, dragon sculptures on them.
