As an investigation was being conducted by Captain J.J Jones, Ms. Collins does her own research by contacting various cities’ checking if any children fit the description of Walter. When the story leaks out to the public many come forward to help pray for the safe return of Walter. At this time, radio preacher Reverend Gustav Briegleb is introduced praying for Christine and her son’s return while at the same time scolding the lazy Los Angeles police force. Meanwhile as time passes there is still no word of Walter, until the film turns to Dekalb, Illinois where a son and father are eating at a diner were the father leaves his son as collateral in exchange to retrieve his wallet from home. When the man did not return, the owner called the police leading to the boy being taken into custody.
In the mean time back in Los Angeles Ms. Collins is approached by Chief of Police James Davis stating he has found her son. While being reunited with her son, it turns to out to be the boy whom was taken into custody from the diner. Ms. Collins claims there was a mistake in which he is not hers, however Chief Davis persuades her that after such captivity ones appearance changes, and despite her intuition she takes the boy home.
After the return home, Ms. Collins notices significant differences of this boy compared to her son. The boy was three inches shorter than her Walter, and he was also circumcised unlike her boy. This makes Ms. Collins rage in anger toward the LAPD demanding they made a mistake and to find her son. Naturally, this harassment bothers Chief Davis, and he orders Ms. Collins to be taken care of where she is taken into protective custody at an asylum for her own “safety.” Ms. Collins was labeled as a code 12, which was defined as people who were put away fordoing wrong to offend an officer. Throughout Ms. Collins time being put away a turning point occurred when a young man from Canada was caught illegally staying in a ranch which gave away the dark secret...
