The Exorcism of Emily Rose is loosely based on facts film, which is both a first class thriller and a riveting courtroom drama. The film was directed by Scott Derricksone.
It tells the story of the trial of Father Moore (Tom Wilkinson), who has been accused of negligence after performing a failed exorcism on Emily Rose (Jennifer Carpenter), resulting in the death of young girl.
The action mainly centres around the trial itself. Erin Bruner (Laura Linney), the priest's defense lawyer is confrontated with chief prosecutor, who persuasively argues that Emily was likely suffering from psychotic epilepsy and could been saved with special supervison and medicine. As the action goes, the initially doubtful Erin is starting being visited by evil forces and the trial becomes more than a criminal case, it becomes a battle between good and evil and a battle between faith and science.
The film shows the importance of recognizing the limits of rationality and the possibility of a world beyond the visible. The demonic possession of Emily and the ritual exorcism performed by Father Moore are shown in a series of spine-tingling flashbacks. The scenes of possession and the exorcism are truly scary and horrifying, and surely will impress the viewer.
To sum up, The Exorcism of Emily Rose is film, which will not disappoint the viewer and will remain in his memory for a long time. On many viewers the film will leave a mark and will force to uncommon reflection.
