This topic has to do with Pentecost Sunday otherwise known as Whit Sunday in the Christian calendar.In the Old Testament ,it was believed that only certain people, such as prophets and Kings could possess the Spirit of God.This was a strong and life giving Spirit when one consider the lives of the likes of Eli the seer,Samuel the seer and prophet,,Saul the first king of Israel,king David, Samson the Nazarene, both Elijah and Elisha. All these powerful men in the Old Testament were prompted by the Spirit of God for one assignment or the other.While some carried out the assignment dutifully, some messed up.But they all enjoyed the priviledged of carrying the Spirit of God.Unlike in the New Testament where the Holy Spirit is not limited to certain people but to all who are redeemed through Christ Jesus
In Joel 2:28-32, the people of Judah had suffered terrible devastation from the wasters,swarming ,chewing locust.Depressed as aresult of waste lands.But their hope was rekindled when Prophet Joel prophesied that God would send His Spirit to all people.' I will pour out my Spirit upon all people.Your sons and daughters will prophesy.Even on my servants, both men and women,I will pour out my Spirit in those days.And everyone who calls the name of the Lord will be saved ''. But before this could happen,the nation Israel must repent .' '' Gird yourselves and lament you priests, wail you who minister before the altar ,come lie all night in sackcloth..Consecrate a fast,call a sacred assembly into the house of the Lord your God and cry out to the Lord ''. '' Turn to me with all your hearts,with fasting and weeping.. Rend your hearts and not garments.Joel 1:13-14 , 2:12-14. The prophecy was fulfilled fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead.The fifty days is known as Pentecost Sunday.This promise of God to His own is also for us today.I must say at this point,no one should try be a saint or a spiritual giant to receive this gift.It is for those who are ready to open up to...
