The Great Gatsby

Is it the”Great”Gatsby

Jay Gatsby, or should I say James Gatz, is arguably one of the most interesting novel characters of all time. Gatsby is a man in his mid-thirties who lives an extravagant life style which he finances with the money he has earned by “a good deal of money”. He likes showing off and always throws big parties at his mansion on West Egg. The fact that, Gatsby lives on West Egg in Long Island, relates to his origin from the Middle West in North Dakota and the conception he has of himself and wants others to have of him because he doesn’t want people to know where he really came from.

The fact that he was able to turn his dreams and his illusions of himself into a reality, and that he grew up as a poor kid on a farm from North Dakota to become a very wealthy and successful man is what makes him great. Also the fact that he is willing to do anything to accomplish his goals no matter what obstacles are in the way, also makes him great. He distributed illegal alcohol by bootlegging and also traded in stolen securities to gain his wealth and portrayed himself as a great man by creating a fake persona of him self by misleading and lying to other people and tricking them in to believing he is something that he really is not.
Gatsby was a foolish man even though he was able to become very wealthy and received several medals while being in the military. He was mainly foolish because he done so just to try and impress and win over a woman named Daisy Buchanan that he had met in Louisville as a military officer before leaving to fight in World War 1. He lied to her to cover up his childhood in order to convince her that he was something he really was...
