The History of Robots

We use robots for many things today, such as making food, performing surgeries, building products and providing entertainment. Today robots contribute to our everyday lives, for instance, when the police need to defuse a bomb they send in the Hobo bomb disposal robot. Or at chemical plant, when there is a chemical fire they send in a telerob MV4. Robots are used in space programs to search new planets and repair satellites. We also use robots for painting portraits, teaching and entertainment. The first robot used for teaching was made in South Africa during the 1960s by Seymour Papert. The first robots used for entertainment were windup toys. One of the oldest robots was made in Japan in 1615 for tea service. The first recorded robot was made in 400 BC by the Greeks, (‘the first known automaton was an artificial pigeon. (Roger Bridgman 10)”). Other robots to follow were used for entertainment; (that were used to cheat at chess). Wind up toys were very early types of robots used for play, there later came more interactive toy robots such as the current day Furby and Aibo, a toy dog that acts just like a real one.

These creations are controlled a person who has a camera and monitor to show what is happening and add backgrounds and anything else. Cyborgs today are still being worked on; we already have certain head gear that can be used as portable computers. Today we already use electric ears, and a bracelet that helps paralyzed people work with computers, because the bracelet is attached to their nerves. An...
