An unoriginal story line with Cliché teen movie occurrences should hit the cringe factor but instead hit the jackpot.
Director Tom Brady created a film that equalled comedic movie success due to the achievement of the humour, acting, music, screenplay and overall end product of ‘The Hot Chick’. Brady’s previous work with lead actor, Rob Schneider in the’ animal’ gives an idea of the style these two have together and although Hot Chick takes on a methodical formula it worked extremely well in this case. Rob Schneider has been transformed into many characters including a gigolo and an animal but this time he has taken it to a whole new level. Rob Schneider is ‘the hot chick’. Although Schneider’s body does not transform into a women he does play the role of an all American teenage cliché girl, Jessica (Rachel McAdams), when she is trapped in a male’s body. Together with the help of friends including Anna Farris as her BFF Jessica discovers and repairs many issues she was oblivious to before she became a man. Yes it sounds like just another body switch movie (Freaky Friday, 18 again, Change up) but having a male to female and vice versa body switch freshens up the formula of this storyline although many classic scenarios are still included.
The Hot Chicks plot revolves around the whole incident of Jessica, the popular hot chick at her school, body switching with a petty middle aged criminal. Although the genre of body switching has been done to death this take on it is impressive especially as it is a body switch between the opposite sexes. It all starts when Jessica unwarily buys earrings from a shop at the mall that are cursed with the body switching curse.
