The House of Whispers

“Good morning babe how did you sleep last night?” I ask as Abby grabs her coffee and joins me at the breakfast table. “Michael it felt like something was breathing down my neck again last night” says Abby. “I think you were imagining things” I reply. “Michael I’m serious weird things have been going on ever since we moved in. I’m really starting to get freaked out this house is like a hundred years old”. “Haha. More like fifty years old. Quit freaking yourself out, it’s a big house and there are some weird noises in older houses, that’s all”. As Abby spoke, I cringed at the thought of my home having some unexplained activity, or possibly even being haunted, but I really had no reason not to believe my wife. She’s honest, has a respectable job, and is not one for lying. I hope she thought the same about me as well.

Well I didn’t want to admit it, but I have been noticing some weird things too. I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want to scare my wife, but it seems like it’s getting worse. “What kind of things have you been seeing or hearing lately?” I ask her. She looks at me, her eyes filled with fear and replies “I think I’ve been hearing voices. I don’t know if it’s just me imagining things when the house gets dark, but it sounds so real. Every time I see or hear something, I get cold all over my body as if it were the dead of winter. It feels as if I’ve walked into a meat freezer it’s really creepy”. As Abby tells me this, I can’t help but feel my own body get cold and numb. In just a few seconds my entire body feels like it’s enveloped in ice. I try to keep my composure as I ask her “How many times have you had those things happen to you?” She looks up at me and just freezes for a bit, then slowly, clutching her coffee mug, trying to keep herself somewhat composed with her eyes staring at me as if she were staring right through me and with her voice shaking she says what I kind of already knew, but just...
