In my experience in the field of Child Development, it has been over whelming and a
learning process. As an educator it's very important to show respect for the children's eagerness
and to learn about their families and cultural language barries. As a teacher who doesn't speak
chinese, it becomes very frustrated when I have to figure out what the children are saying
because their is no one on site who speaks chinese. The administrator sends two teachers to
different work shops that are related to the chinese language. Additionally, all the teachers who
didn't speak chinese suggested that their inability to communicate effectively in chinese was a
cultural issue or problem for the children and their families. The teachers were child and family
focused. For example, being an early childhood teacher, the only thing is me learning to speak
their language. My ability to communicate with parents is harder than communicating with the
english speaking families. Learning the home language of the children and families, can be very
difficult but, as a teacher it is your job to ask questions about their culture and how I can
communicate with that child. As a teacher I would write notes to the parents not only to inform
parents about their child's day but, also to ask questions about home events. As an educator I
think that you have to be willing to be very open and always see the children and families and
listen carefully to the parents as well as the child. You know, you might say something that is
offensive to their culture without meaning to, and you don't want to do that; you want to make
the child feel comfortable because then he or she will learn. Also as an educator it is my
