The Importance of History

Time is an amazing element of the universe we are in. It is a driving force and we cannot speed it up or slow it down; it always marches forward at a constant speed. After a moment in time has passed, it becomes the past, and we have absolutely no way of going back to it to experience it again in a new way. Once time has passed, all that remains is our perception of it. History is our collective perceptions of the past. And perception is not like time. It is not constant, it can be changed and easily. That is why it is important to look back at history doing our best to see it from not just our point of view but also thorough the eye's of others. By doing this we will learn to look past our own perceptions of reality and see things for what they really are, we will learn from our past mistakes as people, and as a nation, and we learn to be unbiased and seek out the truth in everything that we do.

Everyone has different perceptions of the same reality, and everything that we experience is altered by our individual perceptions. This can be seen just by looking a little deeper into common disagreements. My dad and I both went to see the new Batman movie a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was amazing; he hated it. The simple reality is that we both went to see the same movie. However our perceptions of the movie were quite different. My dad tells everyone he can not to see the movie, while I tell everyone the exact opposite. But what would happen if my dad went back and saw the movie through the eye's of a teenager? What would happen if I went back and watched the movie through the eye's of an adult? Maybe would tell people that we both went to see the exact same movie, but we simply had different opinions. After all that is the simple reality. Everything is perceived slightly different by every person on earth. A potato is a completely different thing to a farmer and a chef.
