The Importance of Keeping Track
Of PPE
Knowing where your PPE is important at all times is very important for many reasons. The first reason being that if you do not know where it is you could miss the chance to go out on a call. Another reason is that if you do not know where it is that could mean it has been lost or stolen. Finally it could get damaged accidentally. These are just some of the many reasons why knowing where your PPE is located at all times.
If you don’t know where your PPE is when an emergency call comes in you could miss the chance to go and respond to the call. This is because misplacing your could result in many unnecessary steps to be taken in order to find it and put it on. Steps such as looking around to find your PPE, asking around to see if any one has seen your PPE, and/ or finally finding your PPE and realizing it may not all be there. The time wasted taking such steps could make the difference in making it in time to a call and is better used on more important occasions.
Losing track of your PPE could mean some thing disastrous. Such as getting your PPE lost or stolen. By not having PPE near and ready he could leave it some where or someone could waltz up and steal it. This is not good because the price to replace PPE is costly and is preventable.
If you leave your PPE some where it is likely to be involved in an accident that could possibly ruin or compromise the integrity of the PPE. Accidents such as being ran over, having something insanitary get on it, or having some hazardous waste spill onto it. This could result in the PPE being taken out of the line of duty or retired.
PPE is very important to a firefighters safety. This is why PPE should have a eye kept on it at all times. Cause when the phone rings and the bell sounds, you don’t have time to mess around with finding where your PPE is.
