ECONOMIC CRISIS

Economy, religion, government, family, and education are the pivotal institutions that provide the balance and the healthy relationship in a society. Economy is the sign of the prosperity level of a society. In this scope, Turkey is a developing country but it still has lots of economical problems. Nowadays we are in a big economic crisis and Turkey is still so far away from reaching the economic prosperity level. Although everyday we can see the different reasons for this crisis on the media and in the political speeches, the main causes of the economic depression in Turkey are the debts after World War I and Independence War, political crisis and undeveloped technology in industry.
World War I and the Independence War not only caused huge land and prestige losses for Turkey, but also badly affected the Turkish economy. The Ottoman Empire was in an economic crisis when wars began because of the Industrial Revolution. This revolution caused European countries to be industrialized and the Ottoman Empires economy to collapse. Besides this, the wars in which Ottomans were defeated also affected the Ottoman Empires economy. Considering this, the debts accumulated by the years. The new Turkish Republic was responsible to pay those debts because it was established after the Ottoman Empire. These debts still affect our economy because Turkey hasnt paid them yet. Turkey had enough time to pay, but other reasons such as the political crisis didnt let us reach economic prosperity.
For many years, Turkey battled with numerous political problems, such as conflicts among governments. In some periods of Turkey's recent history, more than one political party was in the government.
