Women right in Islam is and has been one of the most controversial issues in the 21-st century, not only among non-Muslim but Muslim still struggle to understand the role of women. Going back thirteen hundreds years ago, the conditions of women in Arabia was as terrible as it is today, women were considered pure possessions, they weren’t able to choose who they could marry, no law protecting their honor and dignity, no protection against abuse. The prophet Muhammad (pbuh) could have been considered feminist by people of his times because of the extreme improvements he brought to the women of his times. Today the same things that Islam came to eliminate are the exact things that most women in the world suffer of. Many women in the Muslim world are denied rights that are guaranteed to them by Islam, they are not protected by governments and regime that in many cases are the sources of all these problems. In this essay I would like to ill highlight the differences in the treatments of women in some Muslim countries and also the differences between the actual teachings of Islam and what is followed by Muslims today.

Living in the west, we tend to forget and take many things for granted. Although women in the west have their own troubles with society, they are guaranteed by law the same right as men. Those rights are guaranteed by law and any man who tries to violate them can be sent to prison or punished. You would never find a men that kills his wife and still continue to live his life like nothing happened. An attitude that I admire is that when people see someone hurting a person who his helpless, they will in most cases try to help and stop the wrong being committed. In many Muslim countries the laws and the government do not protect women from oppression, the law does not even protect them from violence and abuse.
