In the passage Luke 17:20-21, the Pharisees ask Jesus when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you. What Jesus is trying to tell the Pharisees is that the Kingdom of God is eternal and spiritual just as God is. We feel the Kingdom of God in our hearts during our daily lives as we build it. “The Kingdom of God can mean many things to one person. The Kingdom of God exists wherever God is at work. God is present wherever and whenever people are faithful to the command that we love one another as God first loved us. This could be anywhere from a small task such as opening the door for someone or a much larger task such as feeding the homeless or helping the sick.
Every day we help build the Kingdom of God, whether we know it or not. The kingdom of God embraces everything that has been created, both in heaven and earth that are in a fellowship with God. The kingdom of God has no limits. But the Kingdom is not just for the future. It is not only present in heaven. When we pray, “Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”,” we are praying for the breaking of God's power in our lives to see the Kingdom of God on earth. The presence and power of God has been present from the beginning of creation, just as the Kingdom has been, as it has a past as well as a present and a future.
I truly believe the organization Loaves and Fishes is working in building of the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is not what we can obtain from others, but what we can start giving to others. Loaves and Fishes is doing this by providing food and a fun day of activities to the homeless and the poor. I hope to be able to help do my part in building the Kingdom of God by helping pass out meals and entertaining the youth that has gone there to have a day filled with joy.
