“Society makes you believe that beauty’s something fake. And sooner or later, you start believing it”. Vogue magazine stated that in their magazine. This statement holds true in society because once a person gets an image of what they see as perfection, they aim to achieve that look. One way this is done is by having cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is a procedure people do to improve their external appearance. Television shows or cosmetic advertisement influence us daily, and they bring mental effects, encouraging us to do things in an unhealthy way.
These days society has been influenced very much. Every television show, commercial, or advertisement impacts consumers in some way. These can either have a negative or positive outcome. The huge influence is cosmetic surgery, from certain reality shows like Keeping up with Kardashians, The Hill celebrities on those shows, are seen using botox to lift faces and reshape outer looks, which influences viewers to do the same. Extreme Makeover sounds like a show that anybody would want to be on. Everyone has flaws and feels good to be able to fix something that isn’t appreciated. Some women feel that their nose is too big or their face may be getting wrinkly, the solution of plastic surgery seems so easy, but the pain is unbearable.
People who have self-esteem issues and have been made fun of their whole life would be given the chance to join this kind of show. But first to get on this program, people have to write to Extreme Makeover producers and share their life story about why they are depressed and unhappy with their appearance. This show promotes always a way out. The cosmetic surgery industry promotes the idea ugliness is like a disease which can be cured by going under the knife.
