The “Melting-Pot” Theory

The “Melting-Pot” Theory

Like most things in life, nothing ever turns out as planned such as the “Melting-pot” theory. This theory was to bring white people from certain parts of Europe together in the hope of them marrying and so creating new and true Americans.
There has been one success of the “melting-pot” which is that every American now has English as their mother tongue. But many other ideas of the “melting-pot” have gone totally wrong such as blacks and people from different parts of the world starting to mix with the first settlers who came to America. People with different religions have made their own “melting-pots” but at the same time have made this into three groups: the Protestants, the Roman Catholics and the Jews. The most successful part of the “melting-pot” was that of the early European settlers.
Later in 1880 southern and eastern Europeans arrived in America and did not exactly want to mix but formed their own little communities wanting to keep their religions and cultures to themselves. The earlier white Americans found this unacceptable and soon wanted to put a stop to these Europeans coming into their country. This was one of the many reasons why the “melting-pot” slowed down.
After a number of years and quite a lot of immigrants historians wanted to create a more modern and logical name for the “melting-pot” for example the “pizza”. There are many different types of spices that go into and onto a pizza which in some way represents the many different characters and cultures in American cities today. A “mosaic” is made up of many different colors therefore representing the many different colored faces of America. In an “orchestra” there are lots of different sounds just like all the different languages in America’s huge cities.
