The competition among video game console companies has always been tough. This latest competition though is the toughest yet. The latest consoles to debut were the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii. When looking at the systems from a sales point of view, Nintendo seems to have beaten the competition, but it doesn’t have the same kind of power that the other two systems have. The Wii is a good system but when it comes to comparing it with the other systems, it’s like comparing apples and oranges. The Wii has good technology as well, but is focused more on revolutionizing the way people play games. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 focus more on putting in the best technology possible. Now that both systems have been out for at least a year, there have been several changes not only in what models of their system they offer, but in prices as well.
When the PlayStation 3 first came out they had two models. There was a 20GB model and a 60GB model. The only major difference between the two was their storage capacity. At the time the 20GB model was $500 and the 60GB model was $600. Since then Sony has introduced two more models, gotten rid of the 20GB model, and is in the process of phasing out the 60GB model. The 60GB model price has been lowered to $500. The two new models are the 40GB and the 80GB, and are priced at $400 and $500 respectively. While the only major difference among most of the systems is their storage capacities, the 40GB is missing some things the others have. While the other models are backwards compatible, meaning they can play PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 games on the system, the 40GB model is not backwards compatible.
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was released a year before the PlayStation 3, in the fall of 2005, and came in two models. They had the model they called the Xbox 360 Core and the Xbox 360 Pro.
