Concert Report 1: Instrumental Music

On September 14, 2008 I attended the Musica Viva, and it had taken place at Joliet Junior. In this faculty recital there were several instruments used like the guitar, tenor saxophone, piano, bass, and drums. Also, the majority of the music was jazz, which I found very southing considering the fact that I had never listen to this type of genre live. In addition, the audience had consisted of mostly young adults that had also seemed to enjoy jazz. Furthermore, the first two movements, Sambalamento and Gentle Rain, composed by Luiz Bonfa were both homophonic. In contrast, the rest of the movements were polyphonic, because all of the instruments were played at the same time. I had personally enjoyed the polyphonic texture rather than the homophonic texture because the different spectrum that are portrayed from the instruments themselves. By using more than two instruments it seems that it is more harmonious and more complex. I had also even felt chills going up my spin throughout the recital; it is a physical feeling that makes me feel alive. And it is this feeling that will make me attend other types of concerts. In conclusion, I had very well enjoyed this faculty recital and had understood that music can simulate the mind in various ways, which gave me a better appreciation of music.Concert Report 1: Instrumental Music
