North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (NCDJJDP) provides services to youth and families by providing different programs. Court services, community programs, and detaining facilities assist these individuals. Many of the clients served are delinquent juveniles. These programs are used to prevent delinquency and provide intervention and treatment. The juveniles are from various economic backgrounds and ethnic groups but share many of the same characteristics pertaining to substance abuse, mental and physical abuse, and mental health needs.
The North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (2006) list the vision, mission, values, and goals as follows. The department’s vision is to provide a seamless comprehensive system providing effective services to youth and families at the most beneficial times and appropriate setting. The mission is to promote public safety and juvenile delinquency prevention, intervention, and treatment systemwide. Goals consist of promoting public safety, delinquency prevention, intervention, and treatment at state and community levels to reduce delinquency. The last goal is to form a system that is seamless and comprehensive as a whole. Character, commitment, community, communication, collaboration, customer service, and a can do attitude are the core values of the department.
Vision, mission, goal, and value statements are written to voice the overall purpose, reasons, and ideas of NCDJJDP and the implementation to provide direction and motivation. This shows whom NCDJJDP will serve and how the organization will accomplish its societal purpose. An extension of these ideas lies in the process control.
