The product pitfalls
The major reason of Newton failed is because of the hand writing recognition software failed to correctly recognize people hand writing. In short, the product it self was already failed in serving it’s main function. Failure in this field had created a joke among other at that time. Example: ‘’A panel in which Michael Doonesbury writes “Catching on?” that the Newton translated as “egg freckles” became the shorthand joke for the device.’’ (Honan, 2013). Secondly, customers have complained that it is difficult to use; the operation of the Newton (RAM) is too slow therefore it has a flaw in scrolling through notes. The happened of this mistake was due to Apple Team does not do work professionally.Launching and creating a new product which caused a fail in the particular product in the market is a waste to the company, the money that have been invested for creating a new product is gone and at the end all the efforts put are meaningless as the company has not getting any benefit for that hard work or the company may suffers even worse like the reputation is implicated. The product that are not able to serve it main function will cause an immediate death, obviously, there is not purpose for people to buy that product.
Apple does a market research for Newton, supposedly they knew customers’ need and their expectation on Newton but Apple was ignored those feedback in developing Newton and choosing instead to push ahead and beat its competitors to launch. The negligence of Apple in understanding customers’ needs and wants has made it failed at that time. Newton was first introduced to the market in 1993, at that era people may do not have needs and wants for the product. The reason why customers did not like Newton is they felt inconvenient about the size and weight, hard to fix it in the pocket as people felt it is too big and heavy.
