Fatehgarh Sahib (14 October, 2008 - PNN) Last Tuesday Students of Baba Banda Singh Bahadar Engineering College rejoined classes and study work has been resumed after 22 days long boycott of classes by students. It was longest agitation that any Technical Education Institution has witnessed in recent years. Surprisingly the agitation was not motivated by any materialistic demand rather it had an ideological base. This phenomena has its own attraction and students of social behavior should take its note.



Baba Banda Singh Bahadar Engineering College is a reputed Technical Education Institution run by the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) at Fatehgarh Sahib, the land of sacrifice of Baba Zorawar Singh, Baba Fateh Singh and Mata Gujri Ji. This college is also named after another martyr of Sikhism i.e. Baba Banda Singh Bahadar. All this has its own influence on students of this college. Students do hold a Sehaj Path of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji once a year in the college complex. This time Sehaj Path was started on 19th October and Bhog Ceremony was due on 24th October.



But Manjit Singh Grewal, the Principle of the college, objected in this matter. He said that, he cannot allow students to hold the Sehaj Path as it would disturb study work. He asks student to take the Saroop of Shri Guru Granth Sahib to Gurudwara immediately otherwise he would himself do so.



This attitude of Principle gave rise to unrest among students and this unrest latter turned to be a strong struggle. Students demanded the removal of Principle. They blocked the main entry of college on first day of agitation. SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar came to address students and asked them to ignore the whole incident as the agitation would result in loss of their studies.
