UBS AG (NYSE: UBS) of managed assets total over $2.5 billion. UBS offers a wide range of financial services including investment banking, securities underwriting, wealth management, investment advisory services, financing, market making, and asset management. UBS is a publicly-traded company on the NYSE under the ticker symbol, UBS; the company employs nearly 84,000 people. Their revenues for the fiscal year December 2007 decreased by over 32% from the previous year which included an operating loss of nearly 120% compared to the fiscal year 2006. Competitors Within UBS’s industry, international banks, there are a large number of competitors. Some of the more pronounced competitors consist of Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse Group, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., and Merrill Lynch & Company Inc. Compare to those industries, UBS is considered a small player. Until the second quarter of 2007, UBS’ returns were greater than both the industry and the market. UBS was consideredto have greater financial strength compared to the other top company’s in the industry. However, UBS’ returns in 2008 have been lower than both the market and the industry. Marketing In order for UBS compete with the large name brands in its industry, becoming globally known and the satisfaction of the clients must be a key issue address. UBS is now located in 50 different countries around the world, majority of their offices are in America (38%) and Switzerland (33%). UBS uses a research and development team that focuses their time on consumer orientation. In September of 2008, UBS released a real-time Transaction Cost Analysis, which allows clients to be updated with information as they have a live order. Through this program, clients will be able to download reports and market-tools that will benefit their portfolios.
