Why do we live in the society that we live in today? What happened in the last five decades that lead to the lifestyles that we live today? What happened with our politics that has lead our nation down the road our nation has gone down? A simple decision by a child’s parents to a complicated decision by the Commander in Chief to send our nation’s young people to war has paved the path that the United States of America’s history has taken. Since the 1950’s up to the 1990’s, our nation has been busy. There have been numerous social, economic, and political happenings that have affected all Americans in one way or another, and all these occurrences or events that have happened in the nation’s history have impacted on how we live today. During the course of the previous five decades, various historical events came to pass that have effected the present day’s policies and American lifestyles as well as the future’s policies and lifestyles.
1950’s – The Korean War
In the 1950’s, a variety of social, economic, and political events came to pass. The single and largest event of the decade was the Korean War without a doubt. “The Korean War refers to a period of military conflict between North Korea (officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) and South Korea (officially the Republic of Korea) regimes, with major hostilities lasting from June 25, 1950 until the armistice signed on July 27, 1953.” (Korean War) South Korea rejected to have elections based on the demands of the North Koreans, which is primarily why the war started to begin with. The North Korean government began the war by invading South Korea with the North Korean military in the early morning hours of June 25, 1950. The North Korea military consisted of tanks, attack bombers, and various other war-fighting planes. North Korea took the vital time needed to plan and analyze what was required for this war.
