The Whale Rider

I really liked the movie, The Whale Rider. I had never seen it before this class. The beginning of the movie was really sad when the mom is giving birth and the baby and the mom die. My first thought of the grandpa was that he was a total jerk, but I understand in that culture that they do want a male as their heir and with the baby and the son’s wife dying there was no one to be the chief.
I think the little girl who played Pai was so good. She played the roll very real, and I total was lost in the movie, all the actors did a great job. The emotions displayed were so realistic and they all seemed as if they really were family.
The movie shows a lot of traditions, customs, and a different lifestyle, which is always cool to see. It was also cool to see old fighting techniques.
I think the movie plays a big part in feminist learning. The message that the movie puts across is really groundbreaking, especially to be put in that way.
The movie pulled at all the right emotions, it made me sad at first but pulled through with uplift and inspiration. I really enjoyed it.
