The project I am preparing is “Conventional Therapy versus Bariatric Surgery for Type 2 Diabetes patients. In this context, the application of theory to this project is quite essential. Defining theory, it means ideas propounded by individuals be they scientists or researchers to be studied seriously before being put into action. A theory leads on to research and which results to practice and that is implementation of what is studied. Theory is very important in the healthcare profession as the profession is rapidly evolving with many changes taking place in the midst of challenges facing the healthcare. Healthcare professionals are faced with the daunting tasks of understanding what kind care or clinical observations that are needed for their patients. In the case of Conventional medical therapy versus bariatric surgery for Type 2 diabetes, it is important to note the importance of the theory propounded by Madeleine Leininger and its fundamental applications to the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes in a cultural diverse environment.
Theory is fundamental and the case of Madeleine Leninger (1995) who conducted her research on her Theory of Culture Care and Diversity for forty years would be applied in this project. She built the Sunrise Model as a result of this research which is a center of congruent care provided to patients of diverse cultural backgrounds. The theory helps nurses and health care professional to learn about the different cultural and social factors which include technological, religious, value, kingship, political, economic and education. This helps nurses and health care professional understand the relevance of generic, nursing and professional delivery systems of healthcare.
