Application of caring and critical thinking in nursing practices help nurses to expand their experiences and create a new ways, ideas in their nursing practice (carper, 1978). Nurses students are required to use critical thinking to reflect and integrate into practice all that have learned during practicum into their future practices, which will help to develop the student as a nurse and also the nursing profession. The purpose of this paper is to show how nursing student will incorporate reflection using critical thinking and caring in the nursing practice to help in client need. Reflection is actually the mental reservoir where experiences are activated. It allows one to look back with the benefit of gaining new experience A student nurse must think critically, solve problems, find best solutions for his/her client in order to help patient maintain, regain and improve their health (Potter, 2001).
This paper will talk about three things; my experience in practicum and how it help me to integrate care and critical thinking in solving client’s problem, my interview with an experience registered nurse and how that changed and enhanced my views in nursing, research and integration using scholarly paper(literature) to support my points.
My experience on clinical (practicum)
On my third week of practicum at Rob Rumball home for deaf, I walked into Ms D’s room who is blind, for a morning bath (A.M) care, and I found her very tired and weak, not responding to all my conversations. She hardly wakes up earlier than that, and usually greets people happily. She could not comprehend all what I was saying to her and looks shaking. So I remember while reading her medical profile that she is Diabetic for a long period of time. I immediately ran to the front desk and asked for orange juice.
