Things Fall Apart

Things Fall Apart

The novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is good so far. From what I gather, Unoka, Okonkwo’s father, was an irresponsible lazy man who only cared about purchasing palm-wine instead of feeding his family. What a deadbeat. Not only did he not take care of his family, he borrowed money from people and never paid them back. I wasn’t surprised that his son, Okonkwo, dishonored him once he died. I understand why Okonkwo became a great wrestler of his community because his father didn’t like the site of blood; Okonkwo loved the site of blood. He became a leader of the Igbo community of Umuofia. Okonkwo didn’t want to be a failure like his father which to me was good and bad in a way. In my opinion, Okonkwo became a man who was so scared to be a failure or appear to be weak that he would hurt people. That wasn’t good because he harmed people because of his pride. He became a successful farmer of yams and crops with three wives and children. I definitely think that he lost his mind for beating his wives point blank. I don’t care what she did or didn’t do a real man should never put his hands on a woman ever!!! It makes me sick that a person haveto act so hardcore that they have to hurt someone. Okonkwo did do some good deeds by taking Ikemefuna in his home and treating him as his own son. I couldn’t believe that he tried to shoot his second wife, Ekwefi, because she took some leaves off of his banana tree to wrap food, food which he was going eat. Is he mentally deranged? I don’t understand his mind frame on that situation. I think he shouldn’t have shared bloodshed and violent stories with his son Nwoye and Ikemefuna. I was so shocked that Okonkwo killed Ikemefuna because he didn’t want to seem weak. To me he is already weak. He was truly a coward and I think that he’s going to get what he deserves. The only time he really showed some type of emotion or act like he cared was when his daughter Ezinma almost died. Also, when Chielo the priestess of agbala, takes...
