To what extent is today’s world “borderless” and are the advantages of globalization diminishing for US.


Only a few decades ago the world was strictly divided according to each country’s economic development, domestic and foreign policy, religious and social differences. Most countries were following the philosophy of "divide and conquer" and every country was acutely aware of its boundaries, perceiving itself as a separate and independent entity from the rest of the world.
However, as we were approaching and eventually entered the 21st century, many of these concepts changed. Many countries with similar level of economical development, sharing the same political outlook and social values, united their efforts towards the purpose of the "common good," achieving more together than before.
An example of unifying powers is the USA. Founded by immigrants from various countries, this comparatively young country quickly developed. Instead of trying to divide the continent according to race or language, the immigrants united all states under one flag, creating the world's biggest "melting pot." The USA advanced with remarkable passé, eventually becoming one of the most successful democracies in the world. In the last century, it established itself as one of the biggest economic and political powers in the world.
At the same time, the much older and initially more developed European and the former Soviet Union were weakened by the Second World War, and later divided by the Iron Curtain into socialist and capitalist blocks. The businesses, cultural and political ties between the two blocks were severed. By 1989, when the communist regime collapsed, Germany was separated and the Eastern European countries were in economic ruins. The separation and isolation between the European countries only held their economic and social development back.
