Be free!
Be free is the story of how a teenager has got caught up in the gang culture and finally realises that he has more potential then that and wants to be free from the gang culture and lifestyle, but realises you can’t just walk away from the gang that easily their are consequences.
Jerome who is 21 years of age, the gang leader of ‘The Peckham Boys’. He has to fend for himself all his life as his parents are both alcoholics are in no fit state to look after him now or have been in the past. The gang is family that’s how he refers to all his gang members as family. The gang is the closest to family that he has ever known. His life consists of being in and out of juvenile detention centres since the age of 12. He joined the gang at the age of 9 and took over as leader at 15.
The main tension in the story is when TJ bravely confronts Jerome and tells him that he is leaving the gang to pursue other goals and aspirations for his future life. Jerome is deeply offended and starts aggressively pushing him about and shouting that you think you are soo much better than us and sharply and coldly in a stern tone that you just can’t leave the gang it doesn’t work like that and asks him do you want to reconsider your option TJ just walks away. Jerome shouts at the top of his voice that you have 24 hours to decide or destiny if you choose to leave you must suffer the consequences.
The climax of the story is the showdown where TJ ,meets up with Jerome and gives his decision on his future. What will happen will TJ aspire for a better future or will his life end on the cold pavement slabs of Peckham??
