Trust and Interpersonal Relationship
Trust is basically an act that involves two parts of the human being: emotional feelings and logical reasoning; initially have assume that it possible to trust in each member of the team based in the self-evaluation results and the first impression given, but after that, the trust needs to be earned according with our own and team’s expectations and criteria through the results presented in each assignment.
Elements of the Interpersonal Relationship
At this point the interpersonal relationships inside of the team are constructed by two elements: the trustor and the trustee, consequently, the trust between any two individuals is likely to be influenced by the social context that surrounds their dyadic relationship (Ferrin, Dirks, & Shah, 2003). This means that the trust is a reciprocated development of the relationship.
We can identify three critical aspects of this relationship that determine the team member’s trust:
1. Interpersonal behaviors, every one inside of the team have particular attitudes, social beliefs and personal values to show the trustworthiness.
2. Communication channels that provide prompt, concise and accurate information.
3. Interpersonal trust derivate of the appreciation of others and sustained by objective evidence of the trustworthiness.
Conflicts
However, as part of this interpersonal relationship supported by similar personal characteristics, inside of the team soon or later some conflicts could exist based on the interdependence, one of them is social competition, creating an inherent rivalry between one or more team’s members.
The other aspect is the deception; one of the members does not meet the team’s expectations and commitment, acting as an independent element of the group or just interfering with the team development.
