In the modern world there is a wide range of problems that afflict the United States, not to mention the world as a whole, whether it is an economic crisis or the war in Iraq or Afghanistan; these are crucial dilemmas that affect everyone, yet many people still insist on remaining ignorant on such issues. For many, their choice to vote is because it is their right as Americans to go out and vote; but is it really the right of its citizens to go out and vote regardless of how much they know about the issues. It is arguable; that this country was founded in order to bring about a democracy which would allow for more participation and to have more of an impact by the general populace. However, as time has gone by it seems like not only does the public care less about politics, with the voter turnout decreasing regularly, but it seems as though the vast majority of people are ignorant about much of what is going on politically, and many people choose to vote on a candidate based upon who would be more fun to have a beer with rather than their qualifications for the job. Unfortunately, this is not the only type of uninformed voter that chooses to make decisions regarding the governing of the nation.
In addition to those who are ignorant on issues are those that feel that they are knowledgeable on the issues when in reality they are just as clueless and potentially more of a hazard once they step into the voting booth. Perhaps one of the best examples of this sort of voter are those that claim to not be prejudiced, and even those who admit to it, but then in the next breath admit that the are worried about the “black characteristics” that are sometimes exhibited in Barrack Obama. Such voters as this clearly are not as unbiased as they would like to claim; and statements such as that only reinforce that there are some that are unqualified to take part in the electoral process. Unfortunately, it is not even the older generations of voters that feel that way,...
