In today’s America, the issue of same-sex marriage becomes more and more prevalent in the homosexuality rights movement. Homosexuality has already gained massive acceptance in society, however, same-sex marriage has yet to see the same results. A handful of states have already enacted legislature which allows homosexual marriage, but for the majority of the population stills think same-sex marriage is bad. Some of the revolving issues against same-sex marriage are the psychological and societal affects it may have on the children. Many studies have shown that children who were raised in homosexual households are more likely to engage in risky and gay sexual behavior. Some people think that same-sex marriage is non-traditional marriage and against their religious. In fact, there are some evidence why the majority of the population doesn’t not accept same-sex marriage.
According to Jeffrey Satinova, M.D. a psychiatrist and member of the Department of Politics at Princeton University, he claims that same-sex marriage significantly affects a child’s ability to learn and behavior when one parent (either a mother or father) is missing. Furthermore, children at the growing stages require the interaction between a mother and father. Numerous other studies have also shown the latter statement to be true. Statistical data over the years suggest that children who are raised in families of single parents have a tendency to drop out of high school, end up in jail, or become pregnant. Another study conducted by the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) states, “The new study by two University of Southern California sociologists says children with lesbian or gay parents show more empathy for social diversity, are less confined by gender stereotypes, and are probably more likely to explore homosexual activity themselves”.
