According to Student Code of Academic Integrity (2009) University of Phoenix is an academic community whose fundamental mission is the pursuit of intellectual growth. Achievement of this mission is dependent upon the development of autonomous thought and respect for the ideas of others. Academic dishonesty threatens the integrity of individual students as well as the University’s academic community. Buy virtue of membership in the University’s academic community, students accept a responsibility to abide by this Student code of Academic Integrity, which is a part of the Student Code of Conduct. (Student Code of Academic Integrity). In my opinion, there are many forms the breach academic integrity. This paper is designed to try to identify the importance of integrity as it pertains to plagiarism. In my opinion, with colleges and books become more virtual and colleges using library databases has caused more incidents of plagiarism.
I believe that copy of peoples works is wrong and should not happen at all. However this happens often. But I believe the key to avoiding in my belief, is to make writers fully understand the definition of plagiarism. According to the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary(n.d), plagiarize is to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as ones’s own : use (another’s production) without crediting the source.
Whether accidental or intentional, plagiarism is a serious Conduct and carries significant consequences. Understanding what plagiarism is will help you create original work without penalties (Plagiarism, 2009).
