Violence in the media has been brought up numerous times in magazine articles, television shows, and the news. Violence has been a part of everyone’s lives; it can’t be completely stopped and it has only got worse since the beginning of the 21st Century. One of the biggest impacts for blame of violence in today’s society has been video games. Video games have been in the spotlight more in the past 8-9 years because of the horrible incident at Columbine, on April 20, 1999. Since the teens at Columbine where playing a video game, called Doom, it has been referenced in today’s society that all children that play these mature types of games are becoming more violent. Teens are forgetting that games are made for entertainment, and the things per-ceived on the game should not be portrayed in real life situations. Aggressive behavior in schools and towards other children is on the rise. Stealing cars, killing cops, destroying property are all becoming the ‘norm’ around society. Grand Theft Auto is becoming a reality with all of its vi-olence. The addictive nature and fun entertainment is causing more and more teens to turn to video games for fun. No longer are kids going out to play and do outside activities. Instead sit-ting on the couch and enjoying 8 hours or more of playing Halo is more enticing. Playing violent video games is causing children of all ages to have an increase in aggressive behavior, emotionally disturbed attitudes, and mental addiction. There is also a flip side where people say that violent video games have no real connection to the way a child/teen makes ethical/unethical decisions. It all comes down to one’s personal opinion, and the scientific proof that violence will impact someone’s mental capacity to make a decision.
